We all love the tortured hero...think Mr Darcy, Heathcliff, Prometheus...Batman. Yes, Batman!

But regardless who comes to mind when you think of this popular character of romance literature, we girls can get a bit swoony over them.

Is it because they need a kiss to make it all better? Or is is because that broodiness is always so appealing (until he refuses to take out the trash)? Maybe it's the mystery of finding out what makes him tick.

Do you have a favorite literary (or TV/movie) character who takes the tortured hero cake?

Comment below with your answer (WITH your email!) and you'll be entered to win a $65 Amazon gift card, swag,

and a Kindle copy of my Christian romance Claire's Not-So-Gothic Romance

Claire's addiction to Jane Eyre might make her miss the opportunity for her very own Rochester.

Also, enter the Rafflecopter below for more chances to win. Then hop to the next blog. Check back the day after the contest for the list of winners.

I can't wait to hear who you consider a tortured hero!

  9. Rochester is one of my favorite tortured heroes. Getting tricked and then falling in love but not being able to have her. He definitely qualifies as tortured!

  12. My favorite tortured hero?
Definitely Angel from Buffy the Vampire Slayer ^^

He's good, then bad, then good again. And all the while he has to restrain himself from being with the girl he loves.
    Eeep! Too tragic!

  13. My favorite television tortured heroes would have to be my "Supernatural" guys Dean and Sam. I've been a fan since season 1 and although sometimes over the years I've wanted to reach in and smack them for being typical men, they have been terribly tortured heroes over the years and continue to be, those poor boys. There are more characters that have come and gone on the show that can be a added as well but they are way up there!

Thank you for the chance to enter the giveaway and may you all have a wonderful day!!

  16. Ahh! Just one tortured hero? I don't even know! Mr. Darcy definitely comes to mind as a first choice! But there are so many more recent ones in YA and TV these days!

  17. Hmmm. My favourite tortured heroes tend to be the sort who go out and fix things in spite of being tortured, so not as dark and broody as is typical. I guess for this one I'd have to go with Angel, from the TV show Angel. He's definitely tortured, and so brave and noble in spite of it. And David Boreanz is really, really cute.

  18. Errol Stone from A Cast of Stones by Patrick W. Carr.

  19. I love Cam MacKay in Lorelei James "Rough and Rowdy" Series.

  20. I'm going with The Doctor, from Doctor Who. Lonely, ancient and condemned to love humanity, but always outlive his favorite companions. Breaks my heart. :)

  21. Dean Winchester on Supernatural TV series. Love him! His brother Sam, too, but seriously, Dean breaks your heart. Love him!

  23. I tend to want the characters who die in movies to live. Even if i know they have to die. So Jack in Titanic, But i like guys who are brooding, when you can see something behind them, that is why Batman was so good. (Micheal Keaton or George Clooney, not Val Kilmer)
